Tour Overview

Day 1 Arrival Transfer – Colombo Air Port /Negombo

Arrival at the Bandaranaike international airport in Sri lanka . you will be met our chauffer of Sea Wings Lanka holidays with happy welcome and assisted on arrival and transfer to hotel in neighboring city where your tour in Sri Lanka will begin at Sea Wings Lanka Holidays. Depending on the time of the day in which you have arrived, you may have time to go on a Muthurajawela boat ride where Muthurajawela Marsh, which evocatively translates as ‘Supreme Field of Pearls’, is a little-known gem of a wetland at the southern end of Negombo’s lagoon. A boat ride offers sightings of some 75 bird species, including purple herons, cormorants and kingfishers, as well as crocodiles, monkeys and even some very rarely seen otters Negombo.

Day -2- Negombo/Anuradhapura

After breakfast at hotel leave for Anuradhapura. En-route you will visit Yapahuwa . Yapahuwa served as the capital of Sri Lanka in the latter part of the 13 th century (1273-1284) . Yapahuwa was a palace and military stronghold against foreign invaders. The palace and fortress were built by King Buvanekabahu. Many traces of ancient battle defenses can still be seen, while an ornamental stairway. After that proceed to Anuradhapura.

Day-03 Anuradhapura/Mhintale/ Sigiriya

Anuradhapura is the first medieval city of Sri Lanka , Its well –preserved ruins of an ancient Sinhala Civilization . The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40km2) . The city now a world heritage site . you will visit the Sri Maha Bodhi an offshoot of the historical Bodhi tree under which Buddha became enlightened was planted in Anuradhapura in 288BC and it is the old historic recorded tree in the world. Lavamahapaya also know as brazen palace and it is a complex which was once a structure of its own class , Abhayagiri Dagaba, this is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage towns and extensive ruins in the world, Ruwanwelisaya Stupa is considered a marvel for its architectural qualitie.

Thuparamaya

Collarbone of Buddha is enshrined in the chetiya of Thuparamaya . it is the first dagaba built in Sri Lanka. Jetavnaramaya this is the largest stupa in Sri Lanka . it was the third largest structure in the ancient world . Mirasaveti stupa was built by Dutugamunu after defeating king Elara . Also some of the Lankarama ,the image of Samadhi Buddha, the Twin ponds, Guard stones and the moonstone and this city is now a world heritage site . After visit these places we go to the Mhintale.

It is a mount peak, located 11 Km east of the medieval city of Anuradhapura. The Buddha was introduced to Sri Lanka by arahath mahinda thera (A son of emperor Asoka in India) on poson (June) full moon day in the year 247BC. At that time Sri Lanka was ruled by King Devanmpiyathissa. On this poson full moon day, the king, the chief participant of hunting met arahath mahinda and mhinda thera declared that he came from India to deliver this sublime doctrine of the Buddha and arahath mahinda thera reached Buddhist doctrine to the king “Deewannpiyatissa”. This was starting point of the change of whole aspect of Sinhala civilization and culture hence Mihntale is the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka Also mihintale is the wildlife Sanctuary, which is believed to be the first sanctuary in the world and at time After visit mhintale we proceed to Sigiriya.

Day-04- Sigiriya/ Polonaruva /Habarana

After a warm breakfast at the hotel proceed to Sigiriya and climb the rock fortress of Sigiriya , built 5 th century A.D during the reign of king kasyapa .  It’s a unique combination of 5th century urban planning, architecture, engineering, hydraulic engineering, garden landscape designing, sculpture, art, painting and poetry. Sigiriya,a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is of immense archeological significance: it is one of the best preserved and most elaborate surviving urban sites in the South Asia from the first millennium A.D. see the water garden, Bolder Garden, mural paintings, the mirror wall, the lion’s paws and swimming pool on top .

On completion proceed to the world heritage site of Polonnaruva , which was the second medieval city of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura ( 11th to 13th centuries AD), The polonnaruva period is regarded as the golden age of agriculture in Sri Lanka .Polonnaruva is strewn with ruins in a
resplendent state of preservation. Of these massive structure of king’s royal palace, the ‘Vatadage’ the ‘Thuparama Image house’ and the ‘Gal vihara’ are the most spectacular and also visit the monuments such as Tivankha Image House, Parakhramabahu Statue, Watadage, Hatadage & Archaeological Museum. On completion, En route upon request can visit national park in habrana.

Habarana is a popular tourist destination for safari lovers as it is the starting point for safaris in the nearby habaran jungle and the Minneriya Sanctuary which is heavily populated by elephants.

Day-05-Sigiriya/Dambulla/Kandy

After breakfast proceed to kandy ,En route visit the Dambulla Cave Temple & spice garden. The most impressive rock temple dating to the 1 st century BC and temple of Dambulla a UNESCO world heritage site . it was built by King walaagamba in 89 BC -77BC .Before this period also many monks were living this caves in meditations . Those things were proven by inscriptions , on the way visit ancient Aluvihara rock temple located in matale . Aluvihara is of great significance in the history of Buddhism. It was here that the oral teachings of the Buddha were committed to wring – Tripitaka – for the first time in 3 rd century AD. On completion leave for Kandy. Kandy was the last capital of the ancient King’s era of Sri lanka. it is a world heritage site declared by UNESO as leaving city and sacred tooth relic .In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a cultural show.

Day-06- Kandy /Negombo

After a warm breakfast at the hotel do a city tour of Kandy.Also, visit the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, which were originally the pleasure gardens of the Royalty. Nearly 10000 species of plants are found in this garden and it is encircled by the Mahaweli River. En-route visit for the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela, which is a home to about 70 Elephants found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. Also, accompany the Elephants to a river close by to see them having their daily baths. After that proceed to Negombo.

Day 07 - Departure Transfer – Negombo / The Bandaranaike international Air Port
